LEEA Accredited - Lifting and Slinging

Course Description

This 3-day LEEA Accredited Lifting and Slinging training course is designed for personnel who need to have hands-on knowledge and/or responsibilities for lifting operations, including those who are required to work as a Slinger/Signaller or Rigger. It is suitable for individuals with little to no experience who are looking to enter a career in lifting operations and who need to perform specific lifting tasks in a safe and compliant manner.

NB. The terms Slinger / Rigger are commonly interchanged for jobs in the Middle East, and this training is focussed on lifting operations involving cranes, not portable lifting equipment.

What certificate will i receive?

Upon successful completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with a LEEA Accredited Certificate, valid for 3 years.

What is the duration of the course?

The optimum ‘contact time’ for this training programme is seen as 24 hours over 3 consecutive days.

Optimum contact time is based on the maximum number of learners attending.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no pre-requisites for this training course.

Training contains physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such training must be medically fit and capable of participating fully. Learners must either:

1. Complete a GSS medical screening form prior to attendance.

What does the course cover?

The aim and objectives of the Lifting and Slinging training is to provide the knowledge and practical skills to enable learners to undertake the duties of a Slinger / Banksman for lifting operations.

The employment of a competent person to conduct slinging operations is an important role within lifting operations. Poor slinging is a contributory cause of crane accidents, which result not only in significant damage to plant, but also in severe injury to those doing the work or those nearby.

Training enables suitable employees to learn the basic elements of lifting operations. After training, candidates ought to work under the supervision of an experienced slinger until their employer has assessed them as competent to perform their duties.

How is the course assessed?

Learners will be given a written examination which will allow them to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding. The written assessment is closed book, and students must be able to demonstrate understanding of all key learning points.

Learners practical performance will be evaluated by direct observation during a safe lifting operations.
